JoAnn Coffino began studying art in earnest after 21 years as the owner and head baker of the highly regarded True Confections Bakery in Mill Valley, California. Her progression from baking to ceramics was a natural one, and she later expanded her artistic practice into the fields of painting, drawing and printmaking. She began her studies at the College of Marin where she continues today, presently with a focus on printmaking. She also studies at the Fort Mason Campus of San Francisco City College.

JoAnn delights in exploring and experimenting with new ways of representing the printed image through relief as well as intaglio techniques. With a focus on reconfiguring her original photographs and drawings, JoAnn thrives on unexpected results that she can use to her visual advantage. Using chine collé and collage JoAnn plays with the relationship between paper and image; often the results possess a textural and abstract quality.

In 2005, along with classmates at the College of Marin, JoAnn formed the printmakers collective “Plateline Press” and in 2007 she was selected by the Mill Valley Art Commission to present her first solo show. JoAnn maintains a studio at her San Rafael home. She is married and has two grown sons.
